Entries Available for Veterans Parade

Douglas County is looking for individuals and groups to enter the 12th annual Veterans Day Lighted Parade, scheduled for Nov. 11.

Parade entries are now being accepted for the 12th annual Veterans Day Lighted Parade on Veterans Day, Friday, Nov. 11.

The parade starts at 7 p.m. at , proceeds northward on Campbellton Street, west on Church Street, south on Bowden Street and returns to the high school via Woodrow and Campbellton, a distance of approximately one mile. There is no cost to be in the parade, but advance registration is required.

The Douglas County Veterans Day Lighted Parade is unique in that it is the only known nighttime, lighted Veterans Day parade in the nation. All parade units are encouraged to "light up." Walking units may carry flashlights or lanterns, and motorized units can string red, white and blue lights.

The Douglas County Veterans Day Lighted Parade is touted as the "Parade with a Purpose." All units in the parade are required to salute veterans, active military, reserves and/or the U.S. flag. Self-promotion is not allowed. Veterans groups, military units, businesses, organizations, Scout troops and packs, churches and others are invited to salute our nation by being a part of the parade or by lining the parade route.
