Emergency System Test Set for 2 p.m.

A short audio message will be played on TV and radio stations all across the country this afternoon.

Don’t attempt to adjust your TV sets, and whatever you do, don’t panic.

Officials with the Federal Emergency Management Agency along with the Federal Communications Commission and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration are teaming up today to put on the country’s first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System.

What does that mean for ? Residents watching TV or listening to the radio today at 2 p.m. will hear a short audio message interrupt regularly scheduled programming, with the message: “This is a test.”

Those who hear the test today should not dial 911 for information on the test nor in response to it.

Even if you’re not in Douglasville, or even in Georgia, you’ll likely hear the test if you’re in any of the other 49 states, the territories of Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands or American Samoa. The message will be transmitted at 2 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
