Douglasville Officials Attend Training in Rome

Members of the City of Douglasville Development Authority were in Rome on Friday for Development Authority Training offered by the University of Georgia's Carl Vinson Institute.

Members of the City of Douglasville Development Authority were in Rome on Friday for Development Authority Training offered by the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute.

The Vinson Institute offers one-day development authority training sessions at locations throughout the state. The training sessions are designed to meet the statutorily mandated training requirement for development authority board members.

"This training is a continuation of the City's effort to help bring economic development to our community,” said Persons. “The training allowed board members to be better trained in their responsibilities and aggressively pursue quality controlled development."

Development authority board members and elected officials can now engage in training to help them contribute to local economic development while taking advantage of the Vinson Institute's decades of expertise in governmental training and assistance.

Participants discussed their responsibilities as members of development authority boards and the role that development authorities serve within the local economic development process. Topics included legal issues, ethics, conflicts of interest, and open records and open meetings requirements.

In addition, board members learned the basics of financing development authority operations, incentives, deal-closing funds, and bonds. They also addressed strategic planning in community development, project development and management, and emerging issues that affect development authorities.
