District 66 Candidates Respond to Court's Decision on ObamaCare

The three Douglas County GOP candidates for Georgia House District 66 respond to the Supreme Court's decision on the Affordable Care Act.

The three Douglas County GOP candidates for Georgia House District 66 respond to the Supreme Court's decision on the Affordable Care Act. The Supreme Court decided to uphold the individual insurance mandate as a tax, holding that Obamacare is constitutional. Georgia was one of 28 states to challenge the constitutionality of the law.

Candidate Mike Miller's statement:

I find the decision today by the Supreme Court regarding Obamacare to be very disappointing, said Miller. Today, the highest court in the country has jeopardized the economic and personal freedoms that Georgians hold so dear by upholding the individual mandate and granting unlimited power to the federal government.

Governor Nathan Deal and Attorney General Sam Olens led the state's legal fight against the president's health care reform law, joining a multistate lawsuit. Prior to today’s Supreme Court decision, two lower courts ruled for Georgia and its fellow plaintiffs, finding the individual mandate unconstitutional.

I commend Governor Deal and Attorney General Olens for steadfastly defending Georgia's interests throughout every phase of the litigation against the federal government, said Miller.

Georgians deserve high-quality, sustainable health care but not at the expense of their liberty. I call on Congress to work steadfastly on repealing this law and replacing it with real reforms that help the taxpayers and businesses of Douglas and Paulding counties instead of hurting them.

Candidate Bob Snelling's statement:

Republican Bob Snelling believes the Supreme Court decision upholding Obamacare is nothing less than outrageous.

Mandates like Obamacare are exactly what we should expect when we elect Democrats to run the state and the country, Snelling said. We must elect conservative Republicans to office to ensure that this massive intrusion into our private lives is repealed once and for all.

As a conservative who has a track record serving west-Georgians in the House I am in the best position to fight against any attempt to implement this intrusive health care mandate in Georgia. This bill must fought at every level and repealed!

Candidate Mickey Thompson's statement:

Like many Americans, I was disappointed, shocked, and immediately concerned about the court ruling on Obamacare.

I was in Paulding County campaigning door-to-door when I learned of the Court’s decision from the gentleman I was visiting, Thompson said. After finishing our conversations, I began to think of steps we as a county should take to fight this attempt to make our great nation just another socialist country.

Sunday, the answer was delivered by my Pastor, John Pennington. His timely and direct sermon was about the direction our county is taking and how we can alter that direction. The solution is to VOTE for elected officials that are committed to making a change in our nation’s direction.
I believe government mandates of any kind must be eliminated.  As the State House Representative for District 66, I am committed to work with members of the General Assembly and those at the Federal level to overturn Obamacare and return our country to the "Land of the Free and Home of the Brave."
