Deal Appoints Mayor to State Board

He will serve a three-year term on the Georgia Commission for Service and Volunteerism board.

Gov. Nathan Deal appointed Douglasville Mayor Harvey K. Persons III to the board responsible for "promoting national service and volunteerism in Georgia through programs and other initiatives."

Persons will serve a three-year term on the Georgia Commission for Service and Volunteerism board.

Deal made the announcement on Friday.

"A major annual task of the board is to review and ratify decisions on awarding AmeriCorps grants to organizations and local governments in the state," according to the Board of Commissioners' website.

Persons has served on various boards such as Habitat for Humanity, the Council for Battered Women and the Douglas County Community Character Coalition.
