County Announces Scholarship Opportunities

The Constitutional Officers of Douglas County are pleased to announce a scholarship contest for Georgia high school seniors and current college undergraduates. The Constitutional Officers of Douglas County are Clerk of Superior Court Tammy Howard, Sheriff Phil Miller, Probate Judge Hal Hamrick, and Tax Commissioner Todd Cowan.

Each year, the Constitutional Officers’ Association of Georgia offers scholarships to Georgia students. This year, the Association will offer three scholarships: a $1,500, a $1,000, and a $500 scholarship. To be eligible for the scholarship, students must graduate from high school in the Spring of 2014 or be enrolled in an accredited Georgia college or university. Students must also been seeking a degree in a field related to government, law enforcement, political science, accounting/finance, or pre-law.

To apply, applicants must submit a typed 1,000-word essay that answers the question: “Who are the locally elected constitutional officers and what differentiates them from other County offices?” provide a letter of acceptance or enrollment from an institution of higher learning, a copy of a college application or transcript, and the scholarship application that is downloadable from the Douglas County web site at www.CelebrateDouglasCounty.com. The web site also includes other applicable information.

All complete applications, documentation and essays are due on or before April 1. The scholarship awards will be made May 1.
