Commissioner Mulcare to Host Town Hall Meeting to Discuss Tax Millage

Douglas County District 3  Commissioner Mike Mulcare will host a Town Hall Meeting on Saturday, July 20, at the Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church, 4283 Chapel Hill Road, to discuss the prospective property tax millage rate, bond issues proposed for the November ballot, and other issues of concern to citizens. All citizens, regardless of residence, are welcome to attend and participate in the meeting.

Mulcare called the meeting to present information and receive input from citizens on the prospective tax increase which the Board of Commissioners is considering on June 23. The Board of Commissioners is required to determine its property tax millage rate on or before July 31 of each year. The prospective rate increase to be considered has been announced to be 2.951 mils, and is due to the continuing drop in property tax values.

In addition, the Board of Commissioners is considering putting bond issues on the November ballot for voter consideration for the following issues: (1) radio system for the Sheriff’s Department; (2) Parks and Recreation improvements; (3) road improvements; and (4) Fire Department equipment.
