City Council Puts Moratorium on Rezoning of Hwy 92

Under the resolution, a 90-day moratorium was placed on rezoning applications in a section of Hwy. 92 due to a planned study of the corridor to determine where new development should occur.

The Douglasville City Council passed a resolution Tuesday night putting a 90-day moratorium on rezoning applications for Ga. Highway 92.

The area involved includes land in the current path of the highway as well as in the proposed relocation, from the southern boundary of the city limits to Broad Street.

The only exception will be renewals of special land use permits.

The city is planning to conduct a corridor study to help identify where new development and businesses will be along the road.

Council adopted a resolution setting Nov. 8 for the municipal general election, and another resolution outlining the contract between the city and the Douglas County Board of Elections for the election.

The second approval of the reapportionment plan and redistricting map, effective Aug. 15, was approved.

The council initially approved the map at its June 20 meeting.

Code enforcement officers will now be under the auspices of the Douglasville Police Department.

They are currently under the direction of the Development Services Department, although employees are already unofficially at the police department.

The plan would call for the code department to keep its civilian officers but report to a supervisor in the police department.

Officer Wayne Kelly will have day-to-day supervision of the code enforcement unit.
