Chairman to Address State of County

Douglas County Commission Chairman Tom Worthan will present his 2012 State of the County Address at noon on Wednesday, March 14, during a luncheon that will raise funds for a new Douglas County Animal Shelter that is now in the planning stages.

Chairman Worthan has given a State of the County Address annually since 2006 and has chosen different venues each year to review the accomplishments of the past year in County government, to reveal plans for the current year, and to talk about the direction of the County for the future. In 2011, Chairman Worthan presented at the monthly issues luncheon of the Douglas County Chamber of Commerce, and previously recorded directly for dctv23.

The Douglas County Board of Commissioners is in the process of planning for a new Animal Shelter to replace the current undersized and aged facility. The Commissioners are visiting other similar facilities to see the pluses and minuses of each and hope to authorize design of a new Shelter in 2013. The 2012 State of the County Address will kick off fund-raising efforts to help with the Shelter’s costs, which are estimated to be about $2 million. All proceeds from the luncheon will go into a designated Animal Shelter Construction Fund.

Tickets to the Address luncheon are $25 each and can be made payable to the Douglas County Board of Commissioners, and mailed to the Douglas County Courthouse, 8700 Hospital Drive, Douglasville, 30134, to the Communications Department. 

The luncheon is sponsored by Comprehensive Program Services, MetroBank, Kaiser Permanente, New South Construction, and GreyStone Power so that all ticket sales can go into the Animal Shelter fund.

Chairman Worthan’s address will be accompanied by a media presentation as well as a brochure of programs, facts and figures, and other County information.

The luncheon will be held at The Centre at Arbor Connection, 7475 Douglas Blvd., Suite 100, Douglasville, 30135. The Public is invited to attend. The address will be filmed for later broadcast on dctv23, the Douglas County government access cable television channel, and the address text will be posted post-delivery on the County web site, www.CelebrateDouglasCounty.com.
