Arts in Douglasville, County Given $15,000 Boost

The Cultural Arts Council's new board of directors starts on a positive note.

The arts got a $15,000 boost through a grant to the Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County.

Greg Williams, the new president of the council's board of directors, announced the $15,000 was given by the Georgia Council for the Arts in a 2014 Art Partners grant.  Only 66 organizations statewide were supported by GCA this year due to reduced allocations from the State General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts.

“What a great way to begin as president of the CAC Board,” said Williams, who assumed the office in June. “This was a wonderful, basically unexpected surprise.  Because GCA funding had become so limited, we had not anticipated receiving state funding this year.”

The funding was almost double what the council received last year.

Williams, manager of Sales, Account Management and Service at Kaiser Permanente, has served on the Cultural Arts Council Board for two years. He is active with several metropolitan Atlanta Chambers of Commerce and serves on the Board of the Douglas County Chamber as well as of other nonprofit organizations in Douglas County and the greater metropolitan area. His wife is an educator with the Douglas County Schools.
