Animal Control Hires New Field Supervisor

Douglas County Animal Control has employed Frances McMillan as its new field supervisor.

Douglas County Animal Control has employed Frances McMillan as its new field supervisor. As field supervisor, McMillan will oversee the training and management of the five field officers who respond to calls from the public concerning animals in distress or other situations with animals in Douglas County.

McMillan brings a lifetime of experience to the position. As a child and teen, she “rescued chickens and cats” from her friends, neighbors and nearby residents, and developed a love for all animals. She followed that up by working with the Douglas County Humane Society when it was in responsible charge of and operating the Douglas County Animal Shelter in the late 1990s. She left the Humane Society to help her husband run the family business, and returned to the Shelter as an Animal Control Field Officer for three years before leaving to start a family.

McMillan stated that she is excited to be back and thrilled to be able to return to work again with the animals.” She cites her lifelong passion of animals coupled with her family business experience as making her qualified to help with the positive changes occurring at Douglas County Animal Control.

Her goal is “effective animal control through education and enforcement” with the most important aspect “being humane and patient.”

McMillan is a Georgia native who is married with two children. She began her duties at Douglas County Animal Control on April 1.

Douglas County Commission Chairman Tom Worthan stated that “we are pleased to have Frances back with us since she brings passion and experience to this position. We know that she will assist us as we move forward with our Animal Control program.”
