5th Grader Presents Character Word of Month at Commission Meeting

Mirror Lake Elementary 5th Grader Juliana Shaffer presened the character word of the month at the most recent Douglas County Commission Meeting.

Each month during the school year, a Douglas County student presents the Character Word of the Month during a regular meeting of the Douglas County Board of Commissioners.

The January Character Word is “Generosity” and was presented by Miss Juliana Shaffer, a fifth grader at Mirror Lake Elementary School, during the Tuesday, Jan. 21 meeting.

Miss Shaffer emphasized that “you have to make time for generosity…because something will always seem more important.” She also noted that “sometimes giving can be hard and uncomfortable as we have learned from Mother Theresa.”

She challenged listeners to “give our best to the hardest people in our lives” and that “we could change a city if we all lived this
way.”
