Teen Arrested, Expelled for Bringing Knife to School

New Manchester High School student Talmaj Mitchell, 18, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with possession of a weapon on school grounds.

New Manchester High School student Talmaj Mitchell, 18, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with possession of a weapon on school grounds.

His mother told WSBTV that her son has a learning disability and took the "large knife to school to defend himself against bullies."

After being released from the Douglas County Jail on $1,000 bond, Mitchell told WSBTV, "I was just trying to make a statement. I was trying to tell them just leave me alone and everything. I had no intention on using it."

According to the report
, he said the ninth-grader said students would take his video games, his tennis shoes and make fun of his disability.
