Probation Officer Is Accused of Sexual Assault

Paul Williams was arrested by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office on sexual assault charges and is currently out on bond.

Probation officer Paul Williams, from Douglas County, is accused of groping a woman during a mandatory probation visit, according to the AJC.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office arrested Williams, 57, on sexual assault charges on Wednesday, Nov. 20, according to arrest records.

He has also been let go from his job following an internal investigation, the newspaper reports.

The victim, who did not want to be identified, told Channel 2’s Liz Artz "that he had been her probation officer for nearly a year when he made inappropriate comments, asked her to pull up her shirt and groped her during a mandatory visit."

The woman told Channel 2 she went back the next day and made an audio recording, mentioning the incident to Williams. He then wants to know if she is recording the conversation.

Douglas County investigator Cindy West said the recording was the key to the investigation to the Channel 2 reporter.

The incident happened in May 2012, but the victim did not report the incident until March of this year. She said she feared he would send her back to jail or retaliate, according to the report.

Arrest records indicate that Williams has been released on $20,000 bond.
