Police: Pope Rd. Pot Grower Arrested, Boat Used to Retrieve Plants

As agents arrived at Grady Smith's Pope Rd. residence, he pulled up marijuana plants he and ran to the back of his residence, throwing the plants into a lake bordering his property.

Grady Shawn Smith, 35 of Douglasville, was arrested on Dec. 5, for manufacturing marijuana, according to the Dougals County Sheriff's Facebook page. Agents with the Special Investigations Division of the Sheriff's Department received a tip about a possible marijuana grow from a residence off of Pope Rd.

Agents went to the residence and made contact with Smith. As agents arrived at Smith’s residence, he pulled up marijuana plants he had growing inside his house and ran to the back of his residence and threw the plants into a lake bordering his property.

Agents observed him doing this and he was taken into custody. Agents were able to retrieve the plants from the lake, by use of a boat that was on the property. Smith was scheduled to appear before the local magistrate on Friday, Dec. 7.

According to arrest records, Smith was released on $5,000 bond.
