An Alabama man is accused of running over and killing a Douglasville, Ga., woman for apparently no reason in a bizarre traffic incident Wednesday afternoon.

According to Douglas County jail records, Dewey Calhoun Green, 23, of Birmingham, Ala., has been charged with murder, aggravated assault and aggravated battery. He is being held without bond.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Green is accused of killing Janice Pitts of Douglasville on Ga. Highway 5 near I-20, west of Atlanta. He allegedly rammed into Pitts’ vehicle several times, pinned her against her vehicle and then backed over her, the newspaper reported. She died at the scene.

The woman’s daughter and grandchild were in the car and witnessed the incident, the AJC said.

Douglasville Police said on its Facebook page, the incident occurred around 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, between the Walgreen’s and Waffle House on Highway 5. The incident involved a red Lincoln Navigator and a black Chevrolet Silverado, police said; Pitts was driving the Navigator, according to the Douglas County Sentinel.

Fox 5 reported Pitts was on her way to the Lowe’s nearby and turning left from Highway 5 onto Douglas Boulevard when Green rear-ended her car three times, backing up before the second and third collisions. Police said when Pitts got out to check damage, Green pinned her between the two cars, then backed over her.

Police don't think Green knew the woman. He wrecked his car into an embankment, where witnesses took away his keys and held him for police, Fox 5 reported.

Investigators with Douglasville Police and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office are seeking information on the incident. Anyone with information can call Investigator Clinton Ratliff at 678-486-1245 or case agent Investigator Susan Sweat at 770-920-7138.
