Update: Police Say Former County Commissioner Forges Court Documents

Freddie Leonard Ashmon Jr., was arrested and charged with forgery this morning by the Douglas County Sheriff's Department.

Update: 10:46 a.m.

On June 26, former County Commissioner Freddie Ashmon Jr., took a pay stub document to the information services department at the courthouse and asked an employee to make a change to the document, according to Lt. James Harrell, criminal investigations, Douglas County Sheriff's Department.

The courthouse employee, who lives outside the county, thought that Ashmon was still a county commissioner. He told her he needed the amount of earnings lowered by approximately $10,000, Harrell said. He then took the altered pay stub up to Judge Robert J. James' courtroom where Ashmon was having a child custody hearing over his 16-year-old daughter. Ashmon had his attorney present the altered pay stub to the judge, presumably to get lower child support payments, according to Harrell.

Ashmon turned himself into the Sheriff's Department this morning and is being held under $5,000 bond. Currently he is still in the , waiting to be bonded out, Harrell said.

Freddie Leonard Ashmon Jr., 51, was arrested and charged with forgery in the first degree this morning by the . Ashmon served as the Douglas County District 1 Commissioner from 2006 to 2010.

Ashmon changed the amount of money he makes on a document presented to the court to get his child support payments lowered, according to Sheriff Phil Miller.

Ashmon told Douglasville Patch that he is running for the County Commission District 2 seat this year.

Ashmon was arrested and charged with simple battery in 2009, and arrested and charged with battery-family violence in 2004, according to Douglas County arrest records.

In the 2009 incident, the times-georgian.com reported that Jimmy Hulsey, 63, filed battery charges against Ashmon, saying he caused a bruise and blood blister by slapping his hand while grabbing at some papers Hulsey was holding.
