Plea Deal Possible in Sauls Case

Dustin Willis expects to decide soon whether to go to trial over his connection to the death of 16-year-old Cheyenne Sauls.

One of the men charged in the of Cheyenne Sauls is debating whether to take a plea deal or go to trial.

Attorneys for Dustin Willis said during a hearing Wednesday that they have had extensive talks with prosecutors about a plea bargain, and they expect to decide soon, the Douglas County Sentinel reported.

Willis, 21, is charged with tampering with evidence, being party to the crime of vehicular homicide, four counts of furnishing alcohol to minors and four counts of contributing to the delinquency of those minors.

He was in a Chevrolet Blazer that crashed and flipped early Feb. 19 while Jason Lark was driving a group between drinking parties. Sauls, a 16-year-old Villa Rica High School student, was killed in the wreck.

Lark pleaded guilty to several charges in October and was sentenced to 15 years in prison, the Sentinel said.

Charges are pending against several others in the case, including , who was Douglasville’s chief code enforcement officer at the time of Sauls’ death, and , who lost his liquor license over allegations that he sold alcohol to the group that night at .
