New Principal Named, $25 Physicals

These are the five things you need to know today, April 22.

  1. Melanie Manley has been named the principal of Annette Winn Elementary School by the , effective in July. She will replace current principal Mary Woodfin who is retiring at the end of the school year. A 14-year veteran of the Douglas County School System, Manley has been assistant principal of since 2005. Manley's photo is attached to the gallery in this article.
  2. Athletic physicals will be offered on Tuesday, May 3 at  from 4 to 6 p.m.  The cost of the physicals will be $25 cash. Forms will be provided and parents will need to be present in order to complete the forms and authorize signatures.   3. Girl Scout Troop 7984 is hosting a Summer Badge Workshop (much like a day camp).  The workshop will be at , conducted as two, one-week sessions.  The first week is June 6 through 10 and the theme of this week is “Water, Water, Everywhere.” Registration is at Clinton Nature Preserve, located off of Ephesus Church Road. The girls need to be K5 through grade 6 but they do not have to be current Girl Scouts to attend.   4. On April 28, Georgia will be one of 10 states participating in The Great Central U.S. ShakeOut, the largest earthquake drill ever organized in the region. Already more than 115,000 Georgia residents have signed up for the ShakeOut, when they will practice “Drop, Cover and Hold On”–drop to the ground, take cover under a sturdy desk or table and hold on until the shaking stops. To participate, go to GEMA’s Ready Georgia campaign Website at www.ready.ga.gov. Registration is free and includes information on how to plan the drill and communicate with others about earthquake preparedness.
