Update: Motorcyclist Dies in I-20 Accident, 1 Driver Charged with DUI

The 5 a.m. accident closed I-20 westbound between Thornton and Lee Rd.

A Harley Davidson being operated by Jason Dale Strickland, 37, from Bremen and a Honda Element being driven by Francisco Ferrer, 33, from Dallas, were traveling west on Inerstate 20 when the Element struck the Harley from behind.

The impact ejected Strickland from the motorcycle and into the center travel lane where he was hit by a truck being driven by Joseph Edward Marrett, 66, from Conyers. Strickland was killed in the crash and there were no other injuries.

Ferrer has been charged with driving under the influence with other charges pending the completion of the investigation. There are no charges pending against Marrett.

A motorcyclist died at about 5 a.m. when the motorcycle was hit by a passenger vehicle from behind while traveling westbound on Interstate 20. The motorcyclist was ejected into the travel lane and hit by a truck, Gordy Wright said in an email, spokesman for the Georgia State Patrol.

There were no other injuries.

The 5 a.m. accident closed I-20 westbound between Thornton and Lee Rd.

Authorities have not released the name of the victim.
