Motorcycle Crash Kills Lithia Springs Man

Two motorcycles were racing through Austell when the wreck occurred, police say, and another Lithia Springs man is charged in the death.

One Lithia Springs man is dead and another is jailed on a vehicular homicide charge after they raced their motorcycles through Austell on Friday night, say.

Russell Kennedy, 38, was riding a black 2006 Yamaha YZFR1, and Jason Roddy, 34, was on a black 2003 Kawasaki ZX600-E as they raced south on Riverside Parkway, police Sgt. Dana Pierce said in a news release.

Kennedy lost control on a curve near Hartman Road about 9:20 p.m., hit the concrete curb and wound up slamming into several trees. He died at the scene.

A witness said the Kawasaki briefly stopped, then drove away.

The tag information from the witness led police to Roddy, who was found with the motorcycle at his home in the 6600 block of Marsh Avenue. He was arrested at midnight by Cobb police and officers.

Roddy is being held without bond at the on charges of first-degree vehicular homicide, racing and reckless driving. The homicide charge is a felony.
