The phone scammers seem to coming in waves in many communities all around metro Atlanta.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office issued another scam warning on its website. In this scam, the caller pretends to be a sheriff’s deputy who says you’re in trouble for failing to show up for jury duty.

“We have recently received complaints of a male claiming he is Lt. Conway with the Douglasville Sheriff's Department Warrant Division,” the warning stated. “He has been telling individuals they have missed their jury duty and have an active warrant for their arrest.”

The caller then says he’ll make the warrant go away if you load a “Green Dot” cash card with money and give him the card number.

The sheriff’s officer asks:

If you have been contacted by this person and paid him money, please contact Inv. Melinda Wright, Douglas County Sheriff's Office 770-920-4910 or the Sheriff's Office and file a report.
