Fireman Facing Meth Charges: 'I Did the Drug ... And It Sucked Me In'

A Douglas County firefighter accused of dealing methamphetamine told a judge he is addicted to the drug.

Chief Magistrate Judge Susan Camp set bond at $61,000 for Alex Trace White, 23, who was arrested along with Phillip Tyler Brown, 19, and Edgar Allen Craft, 23, last week by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, according to the Douglas County Sentinel.

White, of 6640 Pine Knotch in Douglasville, faces several felony charges, including possession of and intent to distribute meth, possession of a weapon during the commission of a felony and sale of meth within 1,000 feet of a school.

He has been suspended without pay.

Douglas County spokesman Wes Tallon said White was to surrender his emergency medical technician credentials and not be able to perform EMT duties during the investigation, according to the AJC, and pointed out that White "is innocent until proven guilty."

Reporting from the bond hearing, the Sentinel quoted White as telling the judge, "I did the drug. It was very powerful and it sucked me in. It really took over control of my body and my thought process.”

White was still in the Douglas County jail Monday afternoon.

Brown and Craft, charged with meth possession, were each being held on a $10,000 bond.
