Fire Kills 6 Pets but No Humans Injured

A house fire at 4008 Landmark Drive this morning killed six pets but a family of three were not home and were uninjured, according to Dewayne Johnson, a Douglas County fire investigator on the scene.

Four cats and two dogs were trapped in the house while two children were out of the house; one at school, and mother was at work.

The name of the family has not yet been released.

The fire broke out around 9 a.m. and was out by about noon, Johnson said, but the cold and wind this morning did cause a bit of a problem with extinguishing the flames.

Houses on either side of the fire were untouched but a car in the driveway was damaged.

The cause of the fire is still unknown, as fire investigators have not yet entered the home. Fire investigators are still monitoring the smoldering debris.

The family has been interviewed and has already spoken with their insurance company, Johnson said.
