Escaped Inmate Caught in Alabama Hotel

Coleman Manessa and Kenneth Judson Long, who is still at large, escaped from a Douglas County work detail near Winston, Ga., on June 12.

One of the two inmates who escaped from a work detail earlier this month has been apprehended, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department said.

Coleman Manessa was caught Thursday, June 26 in Jefferson County, Ala., by the U.S. Marshal’s Task Force.

Douglas County Sheriff's Office Fugitive Investigator Joey Garland, who is assigned to the unit, said Manessa was found at a hotel Thursday night.

Manessa and Kenneth Judson Long, who is still at large, escaped from a work detail near Winston, Ga., on June 12. They stole a car with the keys left inside.

Manessa was being held in the Jefferson County, Ala., jail, awaiting extradition.

The vehicle they allegedly stole was found Wednesday in Marietta, the sheriff’s office said.

“We are working solid leads on the other escaped inmate Kenneth Long at this time,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
