DUI Driver Injures Officer at Traffic Stop

At approximately 2:15 a.m. today Sergeant Rodney Houston of the Douglas County Sheriff's Department, was injured when a when a car crashed into a patrol car during a traffic stop on the ramp from Chapel Hill Road to Interstate 20 westbound.

Houston was knocked to the ground, injuring his knee but his patrol car was "totaled," according toDouglas County Sheriff Phil Miller. "It was a domino effect," Miller explained. A car driven by Ashley Sealock smashed into Officer Justin Manwaring's patrol car, which subsequently hit Houston's car, knocking Houston to the ground.

Houston was engaged in a traffic stop and Manwaring, of the stopped to assist when the accident happened. Houston was not severely injured and refused medical treatment. Both Houston and Manwaring are assigned to the city-county joint F.I.N.D. Unit.

Sealock has been charged with DUI and a number of other charges including Injury by Accident, according to Miller. Sealock lives in Temple but works at the Three Dollar Cafe at .

"If (Houston) was sitting in the car it probably would have been much worse," Douglasville Police Chief Chris Womack said. "The police department is feeling lucky no one was more seriously injured.
