Sheriff Doing Well After Surgery

Sheriff Miller wants to thank everyone for the prayers and well wishes he has received on his recent surgery, according to a note on the Sheriff's Department website. He wants everyone to know that the procedure went very well and that, after a few days in the hospital, he will be able to come home and begin his healing process. Drug Busts

On Feb. 27, members of the F.I.N.D. Unit made a traffic stop on Interstate 20 near the Tyson Rd. Bridge. Consent to search was given and two pounds of Marijuana was found in the rear hatchback area of the car. Michael Holderfield, 21, of Rainbow City, AL, was arrested without incident.

On Wednesday Feb. 22, members of the made a traffic stop on Interstate 20, near Tyson Rd. A K-9 alerted to the vehicle and four bags containing numerous smaller bags of crack cocaine with a total weight of 13.6 grams were found. Three subjects out of Dallas, Texas, were arrested without incident.

Deputy Myers of the Crime Suppression Unit stopped a car on Interstate 20 westbound, near South Baggett, for an equipment violation. As the car was pulling over the occupants were throwing things out of the window. Recovered from the car were about 1,600 Alprazolam pills which are generic for Xanax. After searching where the items were thrown two more bottles were recovered with about 400 more pills for a total of 2,000. The two males and one female were charged with possession of Alprazolam with intent to distribute.

Phone Cable Thefts

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office has been investigating several thefts over recent months of commercial phone cable that has been stolen from several locations in Douglas County. On Feb. 20, during the course of his duties a deputy located a large amount of commercial wire that appeared to have been dropped on a vacant lot in Lithia Springs.

Deputies and Investigators began investigating into the recovery of this large amount of wire that appeared to have been placed there temporarily or until suspects could return to get the wire. Investigators monitored the wire through surveillance with the belief someone would return to retrieve it at a later time. On Feb. 22, investigators learned that the wire was retrieved and later located in the possession of two suspects Troy Curb and Zackary Sticker. The two were taken into custody for cable theft. Both suspects appeared in a bond hearing on Feb. 23.
