Douglasville Boy, 4, Dies After Run Over in Driveway by Grandfather in Tragic Accident

Douglas coroner: 'All of Douglas County needs to pray for these folks."

A Douglasville boy was run over and killed by his grandfather backing out of the driveway Wednesday night.

Messiah Huiel, 4, was pronounced dead at WellStar Douglas Hospital, the AJC reported. The boy apparently was running behind the car as the grandfather backed out of the driveway at the family's home on Thompson Street.

The incident occurred shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday May 14.

The Douglas County Sentinel reported Robert Lee Huiel, the grandfather, was leaving the home at 7:55 p.m. and did not see the boy due to the rainy and low-light conditions.

First responders attempted CPR on the boy before taking him to the hospital.

The preliminary investigation points to the incident as a tragic accident.

"My heart goes out to that entire family," Douglas coroner Randy Daniel told the Sentinel. "They are all in our hearts and prayers. All of Douglas County needs to pray for these folks. They are going through the roughest time imaginable."
