Body of Missing Carroll County Woman Found Near Douglasville

A missing eldery woman from Carroll County was found dead in Douglas County Wednesday afternoon, March 19.

The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office posted on its Facebook page Wednesday evening that the woman had been located.

The body of Hattie Mae McGatha, 83, of Villa Rica was discovered by an ATV rider around 3 p.m. in a wooded area off North Flat Rock Road, according to media reports. McGatha had been missing since Saturday, March 15.

The AJC reported she was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:45 p.m.

Douglas County Coroner Randy Daniel said no foul play was suspected and there was no indication of how she died, according to the Douglas County Sentinel. Her body was sent to the state crime lab for an autopsy.

The Carroll Sheriff’s Office issued a Missing Persons BOLO (Be On the Lookout) earlier Wednesday. She was last seen on the 15th by a family member. The BOLO noted she had an “extensive medical history” and was a heart defibrillator patient.
