Attempted Dave & Busters Purchase Lands Douglasville Man in Jail

He allegedly manipulated the names, numbers and magnetic strips on 10 gift cards.

A Douglasville man allegedly manipulated the names, numbers and magnetic strips on 10 gift cards.

About 3 p.m. Thursday, Daron Earl Stephens allegedly tried to purchase a $60 Dave & Busters Power Card using one of the altered gift cards and a counterfeit Florida driver's license with someone else's name on it, according to an arrest warrant that was issued on July 11. The number, police said, was linked to another person's Chase Bank Visa card.

"The true account holder," authorities said, "has declared this transaction as fraudulent."

Stephens, according to the warrant, removed "the printed numbers located on the front side of the cards," had other numbers and names embossed on them and "had the magnetic strip on the back side of the card falsely encoded or altered with a different card number from the number which was embossed on the front of the card."

Stephens was arrested on charges of first degree forgery, financial transaction card fraud and forgery of a financial transaction card. He was released Saturday from the Cobb County Adult Detention Center on a $35,000 bond.
