Alert Resident Foils Jewelry Heist

Denikko Becton entered the store but was arrested before he had a chance to reveal his realistic-looking pellet gun.

Denikko Becton, 20, of College Park, was arrested by the after attempting to rob , at 6968 Douglas Blvd., Wednesday at approximately 2 p.m., according to Capt. J.R. Davidson.

"He hadn't pulled the gun out yet," Davidson said. "The officer didn't walk in on a crime in progress. He was just getting ready to pull it."

An alert resident noticed Becton enter the jewelry store after putting on a hat with fake hair. The resident called 911 and an officer stopped Bectin while he was in the jewelry store.

A Douglasville Patrol officer arrived at the jewelry store four minutes later.

A realistic pellet gun was recovered from his pocket. His car was parked on the far side of the shopping center and Becton had replaced his real tag with one he had stolen from another car in the area in order to disguise his getaway vehicle, according to the Douglasville Police Department's Facebook Page.

The resident who called 911 did not want to reveal his identity.

Becton was charged with armed robbery, possession of tools to commit a crime and theft by taking.
