53-Year-Old Inmate Dies in Jail

A 53-Year-Old inmate died in the Douglas County Jail Wednesday at approximately 7:30 p.m. and an autopsy will be performed today.

A 53-Year-Old inmate died in the Douglas County Jail Wednesday at approximately 7:30 p.m. and an autopsy will be performed today, according to Sheriff Phil Miller.

"I have no reason to believe he died of anything but natural causes," Miller said.

The man's name has not been released yet.

"He was admitted to the hospital last week for a heart condition and released on Sunday and brought back to the jail," Miller said. "He was in the medical dorm and an inmate notified jail personnel that there was a man down. They responded within 30 seconds."

He was then taken to Douglas WellStar Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

"He had an on-going medical problem and was being treated for a heart condition," Miller said.

The GBI is conducting an investigation.
