13 Fatalties Reported in Christmas Holiday Traffic

Georgia State Patrol troopers have investigated 595 crashes with 241 injuries so far.

Thirteen traffic deaths have been reported since the 102-hour holiday travel period began Friday at 6 p.m. up to noon on Tuesday, Christmas Day, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

There have been 595 crashes with 241 injuries and 8 deaths investigated by the Georgia State Patrol (GSP). Other agencies have reported five traffic fatalities, including a fatal two-car collision in Smyrna just before midnight on Monday that claimed the life of a Marietta woman.

The fatalities count is much higher than in 2011 already, when three traffic deaths were reported. In 2011 there were 1,898 crashes with 693 injuries reported by all agencies.

Fatalities have been reported in the following jurisdictions during the 2012 Christmas holiday travel period:

  • Cobb County Police
  • Newnan Police
  • GSP Grovetown
  • Rockdale Sheriff's Office
  • GSP Sylvania
  • GSP Thomasville (2)

The travel period ends at midnight Tuesday.
