Robert Ernest Camp Dies

Funeral service and interment will be held today, Jan. 3, at 2 p.m. at the Ephesus Baptist Church 8445 Ephesus Church Rd., Villa Rica.

Robert Ernest Camp, resident of Winston, was born July 13, 1931, and died Dec. 31, 2011. Second son of the late William Fred Camp and Manie Lee McKoy Camp
Graduated from Douglas County High School in 1948. He was a Veteran of the Korean War.

He continued his military service in the Georgia National Guard. He was active in the Douglasville Unit and retired as a Master Sergeant E8 from the Headquarters in Calhoun, Georgia with 35 years service.

During his military career he was awarded 10 metals which included the Korean Presidential Citation, a Presidential Citation, the Korean War metal and the United Nations Metal.

He was united in marriage to Nelda Duncan Camp on June 3, l955. They had four children Donna, Robyn, Lori and Brian. Camp was a life-long resident of Douglas County.

As a member of Ephesus Baptist Church in Winston, he held various leadership positions over the years including Sunday School teacher, Deacon Chairman, and Choir Member. He also sang bass with the Ephesians Five Gospel Quartet for many years.

His occupation as a diesel mechanic began with Yancey Brothers Company in Atlanta.  He also worked for Fulton County and retired from Douglas County.
Mr. Camp is survived by his wife, Nelda Duncan Camp of Winston, Georgia, daughters Donna Camp Rogers (David) of Villa Rica, Georgia, Robyn Camp Griffin (Vinson) of LaGrange, Georgia, Lori Camp Lewis (Jeff) of Villa Rica, Georgia, and son Brian Camp (Ashlie Hope) of Douglasville.   He is also survived by grandchildren Jenifer Garrison Weathers (Flint), Barrett Garrison (Kelsey), Chris Rogers (Jamie), Kimberly Goss Fowler, Matthew Goss, Bowen Griffin, Katie Lewis Clay (Ryan), Callie Lewis, Lori Beth Lewis, Emily Lewis, Clay Camp, Casey Camp, Brittany Fowler, Tyler Camp, Austin Musick, Cody Taylor and Gracie Taylor and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Don Camp and Russell Camp and brother-in-law Ronnie Northcutt.  He is also survived by brothers Stewart Camp (Peggy), Doug Camp (Mary), Johnny Camp (Shirley) and Tommy Camp and sisters-in-law Elaine Camp, Linda Northcutt, Gail Garrison (Ted) and Kay Camp (Kenny).
Mr. Camp was a talented vocalist and musician and an avid hunter and fisherman.  He gave his family a true love for nature, camping, and music and taught them the value of loving and spending time with family.

The visitation was Monday at Hightower's Funeral Home in Douglasville.
