Pierce McWhorter, 85, Dies

The funeral service was today at 11 a.m. in the Rosehaven Chapel with Rev. John Merk officiating.

Pierce McWhorter, 85 of Douglasville, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 4. He was born July 7, 1928 in Atlanta. 

Pierce graduated from Tech High in 1946 and was Football Player of the Year for the State of Georgia. He played pro baseball with the Atlanta Crackers and Braves until 1956. He worked for Reeder- McGaughey for 35 years as well as officiating high school football for 37 years. He was a member of Lithia Springs United Methodist Church

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Corey McWhorter.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Betty McWhorter; children, Mac McWhorter (Becky), Kyle King (Dod); Alan McWhorter (Kellie); grandchildren, Kasay Rabon (Matt), Katie Staszak (Andrew), Kalan League (Josh), Mac McWhorter III, Miles King (Whitney), Tyler McWhorter; and 5 great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was today at 11 a.m. in the Rosehaven Chapel with Rev. John Merk officiating. Interment followed at Westview Cemetery.

Flowers accepted or donations may be made to Wellstar Community Hospice at Tranquility-Cobb, Lithia Springs United Methodist Church, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
