Obituary for Terry Franklin Adams

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 28, 2012 from Hightower's Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow, at a later date, in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Bremen.

Terry Franklin Adams, age 62 of Douglasville passed away, April 25, 2012. He was born April 13, 1950 in Carrollton, Georgia to the late Lewis F. “Buck” Adams and Grace Anderson Adams.

As a child, Terry attended a lot of funerals with his father and thus sparked an interest in making a career in funeral service.  After talking to his local funeral director, Mr. H.B. Hightower, Terry began working at Hightower Funeral Home in Bremen during his junior year at Buchanan High School. 

Terry worked weekends and summers at the funeral home.  He was part of the last graduating class of Buchanan High School in 1968 before becoming Haralson County High School.

Terry was able to serve his apprenticeship in funeral service at the Hightower Funeral Home in Bremen.  Following graduation, Terry enrolled in Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science in Atlanta and was an honor-graduate in the class of 1970. 

Following graduation, Terry received his Funeral Director and Embalmer licenses and decided to remain in Atlanta and took a position with H.M. Patterson & Son Funeral Home which spanned nearly 36 years.

Terry continued his career with positions with Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta and for Bellamy Funeral Homes in Powder Springs and Hiram.  In 2010, Terry was able to return to West Georgia with Hightower Family Funeral Homes in Douglasville, Carrollton and Bremen. 

Terry felt strongly about his professional service to families in their time of need. 

Terry is a member of the Hiram First United Methodist Church.  Survivors are his daughters and son-in-law, Hilary Adams of Smyrna, Deigh Prewett of Buchanan and Leigh and Joel Schneider of Centreville, VA; sister and brother-in-law: Susan and Bill Hightower of Bremen; grandson: Haiden Schneider; numerous friends and collegues.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 28, 2012 from Hightower’s Memorial Chapel with Pastor Steve Alred officiating and with Steve Vermilya delivering the Eulogy.  Interment will follow, at a later date, in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Bremen.

In accordance with his wishes, his body was cremated.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 28, 2012 from 10:00 A.M. until the service hour. 

In lieu of flowers, those desiring to do so may make contributions in memory of Terry Franklin Adams Class of 1970 c/o Georgia Funeral Directors Association Scholarship Fund, Post Office Box 1865, Roswell, Georgia 30077.  This fund is used to help aspiring Funeral Directors see their dream to fruition.
