Navy Vet Linton Stevens 'Steve' Newton Jr., 83, Dies

Linton Stevens “Steve” Newton, Jr., 83 of Carrollton, passed away Friday, Jan. 3. He was born June 23, 1930, in Milledgeville, GA., to the late Linton Stevens Newton Sr., and Nina Mae Hemphill Newton. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy. He retired from MARTA as a Communications Engineer.

Besides his parents, preceding him in death is a brother, Charles Newton. Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Frances Combs Newton of Carrollton; son, Michael Newton (Jane) of Gainesville, VA.; daughter, Patricia Newton (Kate Dacey) of Blaine, WA.; daughter, Betsy Kelley ( John) of Smyrna, GA.; sister, Nell Heyne of Salem, OR.; grandson, Ryan Newton (Beth) of McLean, VA.; and granddaughter, Andrea Newton of Saint David’s, PA. In keeping with the family’s wishes, the body will be cremated.

There is no service scheduled at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or a charity of your choice.
