Korean Vet Wallace Kenneth Swanson, Jr., 81, Dies

Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 23, from Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel with Rev. Michelle Kulhman officiating.

Wallace Kenneth Swanson, Jr., 81, of Carrollton, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 20, at his residence. He was born Nov. 26, 1931 in Birmingham, AL., the son of the late Wallace Kenneth Swanson, Sr. and Rachel Othera Garnett Swanson. He was retired from Yellow Freight Lines as a dispatcher and had also worked for fourteen years as a greeter with Walmart.

Mr. Swanson received his Bachelor of Law degree from Atlanta Law School and was a U.S. Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the West Georgia Shrine Club, where he had served as President. He was also a member of the Sand Hill Shrine, the Tucker Shrine, the Yaarab Temple Shrine and the Morning Side Masonic Lodge F&AM. Mr. Swanson was also an active member of the Grace Lutheran Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Melton Swanson. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ashley Swanson of Carrollton; sons and d aughters-in-law: Stephen R. Swanson and Jon K. Swanson, both of Deltona, Florida, Jodie & Linda Ashley of Kalispell, Montana, and Paul & Tammie Ashley of Bowdon, Georgia; sister, Kay Swanson Timmons of Franklin, Georgia; grandchildren: Brian & Rachel Swanson of Miami, Florida, Jennifer & Chris Beckom and Bradley Ashley, all of Bowdon, and Michael Ashley of Kalispell, Montana; great grandchildren: Ben Ashley, Kayleigh Harris and Jon Beckom.

Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 23, from Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel with Rev. Michelle Kulhman officiating. Members of the Shrine will serve as pallbearers and honorary escort. Interment will follow in West Georgia Memorial Park with military honors.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on today from 6 until 8 p.m.
