Herman Rudolph Derrick, 70, of Douglasville

Funeral Service will be held Sunday, May 25 at 3 p.m. at Hightower's Memorial Chapel.

Herman Rudolph Derrick, age 70 of Douglasville, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2014.  He was born August 3, 1943 in Atlanta to the late Harold Rudolph Derrick and Kathryn Mae Walker Derrick. Mr. Derrick was a security guard for the GA Building Authority and retired in 2001 with 33 years of service.  He enjoyed camping with his family especially at church camp meetings and was an active member of the Bearden Lane Church of Christ.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Aubrey Derrick, sister-in-law, Marjorie Derrick and nieces, Tammy Derrick and Janet Derrick, and great nephew, Michael Frix.

Survivors are his wife of 50 years, Jean Bearden Derrick of Douglasville; daughter and son-in-law: Mary and Matthew Waldron of Douglasville, daughter, Shelley Smith of Villa Rica, son-in-law, Fred Smith of Carrollton and son, John Derrick of Bremen. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, Alyssa, Alexis and Adrian Waldron, Sharon and Joshua Smith, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be held Sunday, May 25, 2014 at 3:00 PM from Hightower’s Memorial Chapel, with Minister Michael Daniel officiating.  Interment will follow in the Bearden Lane Church of Christ Cemetery, with Nim Bearden, Will Davis, Fred Derrick, Joe Derrick, Jr., Jimmy Derrick and Tim Bearden serving as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jimmy Bearden, Jim Davis, Keith Vaughn and Charles Campbell.

The family will receive friends, Saturday, May 24, 2014 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
