Helen Frances McCollum Smythe, 89, Dies

The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home, Douglas Chapel, today, from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral hour.

Helen Frances McCollum Smythe, 89 of Lithia Springs, passed away Friday, Nov. 9 at Wellstar Tranquility Hospice. She was born Feb. 9, 1923 in Atlanta, the daughter of the late Hope Thrasher McCollum, Sr. and the late Bernice Thomason McCollum. She worked at C & S Bank and later retired from Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention (now known as the North American Mission Board).

She was a member of the First Baptist Church Lithia Springs. She enjoyed baking, catering, painting and quilting. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Stockton Smythe on Dec. 27, 2007. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Karol and Michael Standridge of McDonough; son, Kevin Smythe; two grandchildren, Paige and Wayne Richey of California and Brandon Standridge and fiancΓ©, Brittny Wood of McDonough.

Funeral Services will be conducted today at 1 p.m. at the Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin McKoy and Dr. Marion Beaver officiating. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery. The following will serve as pallbearers: Brandon Standridge, Greg β€œDub” Lamb, Terry Redwine, Steve Eller and Gary Eller.
