Coast Guard Vet George Camp Gable, 88, Dies

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. in the Rosehaven Chapel with Dr. John Pennington officiating. He will be cremated following the services.

George Camp Gable, 88 of Douglasville, passed away Wednesday, May 22. He was born Oct. 16, 1924 in Paulding County, son of the late George Christopher and Oma Camp Gable. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Michael Gable and Larry Gable; brothers, James Gable and Luther Gable; and a sister, Sarah Kowalski. He served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard and he owned his own business, Book Sales, where he was a book dealer. He was a member of the Battle Hill F&AM Masonic Lodge #523 in Lithia Springs, and attended First Baptist Church of Douglasville, where he was a member of Keenagers.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Gable; daughter, Rebecca Ann Phillips; granddaughter, Tiffany Ann Phillips; great-grandsons, Michael Blane McPherson and Brayden Gable Bell; sisters, Virginia Dearing and her husband Jim, Wynelle Cole; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from noon until 2 p.m.Β  The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the Rosehaven Chapel with Dr. John Pennington officiating. He will be cremated following the services.
