David Allen Sims, 59 of Douglasville, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 25. He was born Sept. 2, 1954 in Gadsden, AL. He was retired from Ford Motor Company and had served as a choir director for more than 40 years at various churches. David loved spending time with his family, his grandchildren and his dogs, Einstein and Gus; enjoyed golf and was an avid Alabama football fan. He was a member of Heritage Baptist Church.
David was preceded in death by his father, Charles Gary Sims; his mother, Mary Wilkes Sims; and his step-mother, Myra Estes Sims.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Elaine Sims of Douglasville, GA; son, Johnathan Sims and his wife, Cindy of Dallas, GA; daughter, Elizabeth Sims and her husband, David of Villa Rica, GA; son, Christopher Sims and his wife, Kerstie of Villa Rica, GA; grandchildren, Sarah, Layne, Haylie, Olivia, Carson, Mackenzie and Camden; brothers, Gary Sims and his wife, Janine of Fort Payne, AL, Mike Sims and his wife, Judy of Anniston, AL, Ed Estes and his wife, ChiChi of Southside, AL; sisters, Sue Rumbley and her husband, Wes of Springville, AL, Sarah Weaver and her husband, Mike of Forsyth, GA; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 6 until 8 p.m. The funeral service will be Saturday, Sept. 28, at 11 a.m. in the Rosehaven Chapel with Reverend Cecil Clegg and Reverend Joe Tanner officiating. The interment will be Sunday, Sept. 29, at 2 p.m. CST at Youngs Chapel Congregational Methodist Church Cemetery, 44 Youngs Chapel Road, Piedmont, AL. 36272.
