Army Vet, E. Murphy Hunter Dies

The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home, Douglas Chapel, today from 2 until 4 p.m. and from 6 until 8 p.m. Funeral Services will be conducted Tuesday, July 10, at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home.

E. Murphy Hunter, age 88 of Douglasville, passed away Saturday, July 7. A native of Douglas County, he was born Aug. 24, 1923 the son of the late C. Ray Hunter and the late Mattie Ioma Camp Hunter.

He served in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant during World War II. Hunter retired from and he was a member of in Douglasville. He was a member of the Douglasville Masonic Lodge #289 F&AM and the Sweetwater Shrine Club. He served on the Board of Credentials and Elections at .

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth Orr Hunter; and son, Robert Murphy Hunter. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Theresa Hunter of Douglasville; sister, Irene Meadows of Paulding County, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Dewey and Mary Alice Hunter of Cobb County, GA; six grandchildren, Robby and Leigh Ann Hunter, Stephen and Jessica Hunter, Robert Taylor, Tracy Smith, Tammy Crowder, and Joe Majors; 18 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at , Douglas
Chapel, today from 2 until 4 p.m. and from 6 until 8 p.m. Funeral Services will be conducted Tuesday, July 10, at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home with Dr. Danny Watters and Rev. Darrell Hunter officiating. Interment will follow at Sweetwater Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors provided by the U.S. Army National Guard. The following will serve as pallbearers: Robby Hunter, Stephen Hunter, Joe Miller, Phil Alvers, Charles Wellum, Doug Wortham, and Dan Meadows.
