Anice Maelene Lee Cowart, 89, Dies

Memorial Services will be conducted Thursday, Nov. 29, at 3:30 p.m. from the Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville.

Anice Maelene Lee Cowart, 89 of Douglasville, formerly of Villa Rica, passed away Sunday, Nov. 25, at Wellstar Douglas Hospital following an extended illness. She was born Feb. 11, 1923 in Marion County, AL., the daughter of the late Sam Fletcher Lee and the late Melinda Jenny Bell Weeks. She was a homemaker and a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Fairburn.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Cowart; sons, Jerry Cowart, Terry Cowart, and Jack Cowart.

She is survived by three grandsons, Terrance Cowart of Huntsville, AL., Thomas Cowart of California, and Steve Casswell of Lawrenceville; adopted daughter and son-in-law, Hilda and Kenneth Burns of Coweta County, GA; sister, Johnnie Mays of Pelham, AL; special niece and caregiver, Jan Butler of Douglasville; several other nieces and nephews; and extended family members.

The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home, Douglas Chapel, Thursday, Nov. 29, from 2:30 until 3:30 p.m. Memorial Services will be conducted Thursday, Nov. 29, at 3:30 p.m. from the Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville. According to the family’s wishes, her body was cremated.
