Favorite Douglas County restaurants

People often ask me “Where do you like to go eat?” I’m not what you would call a gourmand. I don’t always look for the fanciest or best reviewed restaurants, I just want somewhere with good food, good beer and great service. In Douglas County here are my top choices:

1.       Taco Mac on Hwy 5 in Douglasville– This is definitely my fallback restaurant. If my family can’t come to a consensus on where to go this is usually where we end up. They have quite a selection from burgers, wings, burritos, tacos, wraps, nachos (warning: you probably can’t eat them alone they are so huge), salads and their guacamole dip is awesome. I’m a member of their Brewniversity Club so it’s always nice to have a chance to add a different beer to my running list. I don’t believe I have ever gotten bad service here, their management team is the best.

2.       La Salsa on Hwy 5 in Douglasville- Great Mexican food, competitive prices and a great deal on beer (my favorite is Dos Equis Amber on draft) you can’t go wrong if you want a good Mexican restaurant in Douglasville (and there are plenty to choose from).

3.       Provino’s on Chapel Hill Road in Douglasville- If you are looking for good Italian food in Douglasville go no further than Provino’s. Starting with salad and those incredible garlic rolls (be careful or you won’t have any room left for dinner) you know you are in for a great Italian meal. My favorite is the Manicotti and the stuffed mushroom appetizer is incredible. If you want an Italian beer try a Peroni.

4.       Oz Pizza on Riverside near Tributary- The fact that Oz is still here and there are no other businesses around is a testament to how good their pizza is. Our favorites are the Hercules (an all meat pizza), The Mack (their supreme) or building our own. My son loves getting pineapple on his. Top this off with a Yuengling or a Fat Tire and you’ve got a great meal.

5.       Hudson’s Hickory House on Hwy 78 in Douglasville- I literally grew up on Buford and Scott Hudson’s barbecue. My parents would run up and get a pound of barbecue and a pack of buns and we would make a meal out of it. When I was in high school we would make a stop at Hudson’s for some of their incredible French fries made with fresh cut potatoes. Don’t even get me started on the Brunswick stew, I could eat a vat of that stuff.

I know many people will disagree with me on my choices but so be it. I’m not saying these are the cream of the crop of Douglas County restaurants, just the ones my family and I love and visit the most often.  Feel free to add your favorites in the comments.
