The Douglasville to Atlanta Commute has killed Radio for me

The long commute I have each day has surprisingly led to me not listening to the radio anymore.

I stopped listening to the radio about 8 months ago. It wasn't a conscious decision and when I did think about it I assumed I would tune into 790 Sports Radio or the various music stations; however as time has gone on I haven't turned the radio back on. You would think with the commute back and forth everyday that I would at least listen to the radio a little, but the only time I turn on the radio is to adjust the clock. What I do to pass the time is listen to Audiobooks and Podcasts on my phone. For a kid who grew up with the mentality of LLCoolJ.

I can't live without my radio this is surprising. If my commute was shorter this probably wouldn't have happened. With a short commute I wouldn't get into the Audiobooks and 20-30 minute podcasts but as I started looking for Podcasts on topics that interest me I got more into listening to them on the commute. The amount of interesting podcasts and audiobooks has increases each month. When I compare those podcasts and audiobooks against the formulaic radio we have there is no comparison. I think I'm still in a small minority but since most cars now come with an Auxiliary jack that will play music on your phone or other portable device I think the population of people like me will grow. I need to seperate traditional radio from satallite radio. Satallite radio is another medium that allows you to drill down to subjects that interest you.

I think that's the key. Using my phone or satallite radio I can drill down to topics of specific interest and switch to antohere topic of interest easily. I have started to see this same thing happen with cable TV. We are watching more and more TV through our Xbox using Netflix and on the computer using Hulu and other video sites. I've really gone of into the weeds with this one. Let's bring this back to  Douglasville. Imagine how cool it would be if I could park my car somewhere in the morning and get on a train fire up my tablet or laptop and watch movies or TV during the commute. I knew I would figure out a way to turn this into anothere plea for train service from Douglasville to Atlanta, but I've already written that.  What do you guys to pass the time on those long morning commutes?
