Our Teachers Are Getting Upset!

Our local teachers have become very upset by the misbehavior of our
students in the classroom. So much so, that many teachers are
considering transfers to other counties in metro Atlanta that do not
have as large a problem. Just  1 or 2 misbehaving students in a class
room can distract the teacher and disrupt the classroom so the large
majority of behaving students miss-out on a quality education. But,
our teachers report that it's several misbehaving students and not just
1 or 2. The teachers started experiencing this large student misbehaving
problem after our Board of Education increased class sizes from ~ 21 - ~33
a few years ago due to large budget cuts which caused a lot of teachers
to be laid-off. Our student graduation and test score rates have been
declining since per the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Newspaper and
Zillow.com states Douglas County Schools are rated #5 out of a possible
10 on a national basis. Our teachers feel our student's parents are not
doing enough to teach their children to behave in school and to respect
their teachers. Our teachers report the worst student behavior problems
exist in our middle schools and the first two grades of high school. Our
teachers are held accountable for the progress of each of their students and
they feel the pressure and stress of not being able to accomplish their
jobs and the risk they may lose their jobs and income due to the problems caused by the misbehaving students.

It seems the primary solutions are parent's teaching their children the
importance of good behavior and respect for their teachers in school and
for our Board of Education to reduce the average student class room size to the previous 21 students ASAP. In order to be able to afford that, the
county and board of education need to increase their income and budgets
to prior levels before the budget cuts began. There is a successful plan
that can do that.

That Plan will be presented at our Douglas County Town Hall Meeting,
April 26th, from 10AM-12PM, to be held at the Douglas County Library
located at 6810 Selman Dr. Douglasville, GA 30134. Every parent that is
interested in a quality education for their children should attend.

RSVP's are required due to Limited Seating. Please send RSVP's to
randylon@comcast.net

The meeting is FREE, Open To The Public, and Nothing Will Be Sold nor
Solicited. The meeting has been organized by a local non-profit for the
benefit of our citizens. Please attend and invite other concerned parents to attend also.
