New Pizza Shop Opens in Douglasville

Marco's Pizza opens new location in Douglasville. Blogger offers his insights from a visit to their grand opening and sampling of their product.

In case you haven't been by the corner of Douglas Boulevard and Bright Star Road, there is a new pizza shop next to the Exxon convenience store and gas station.

Marco's Pizza is of course part a chain of restaurants popping up across the United States.  Presently they are in 28 states, with this Douglasville location being the 31st in Georgia.

This past Monday night they had a grand opening with free pizza being offered to anyone that stopped in to check them out.  Their friendly and very efficient staff was all present helping to bake an endless chain of pizzas being served up to the seeming never ending flow of interested Douglasville residents.

They had a wide selection of their best sellers available for sampling.  Each person was given two slices and a choice of which style pie they wanted the two slices to be from. I tried the Pepperoni Magnifico, which pairs up Old World Style sliced pepperoni and Classic Style Pepperoni, and the Deluxe Uno which has Classic pepperoni, Italian sausage, green peppers, onions, and mushrooms. My wife tried the Hawaiian Chicken which had chicken, ham, bacon, and pineapple. Her other choice was the White Cheezy which had four types of cheese including feta, bacon, onions, sliced tomatos and garlic butter.

We of course gave each other a piece of our pizza slices.  All four was very good, ingredients very fresh.  Even the Hawaiian Chicken - I am not a fan of pineapple on my pizzas.  You can really taste a difference in the crust - which they make fresh daily - no frozen dough here.  That is impressive for a growing chain like Marcos - many of them cheap out after a time.

According to the manager whom I had a chance to speak with briefly, they prep much of their product daily - including the sauce which they make daily - and not from tomato paste.  They also shred their cheese fresh and make their own blend of cheeses that they use on the pizza, so out with that frozen cheese taste you get from other places.

I grabbed one of their delivery menus, and though they are slightly more than other chains in the areas, I would have to say the increase in price is well worth the freshness of the product I sampled Monday night.  They offer not just pizza, but subs, salads, a variety of appetizers, and of course your standard line of beverages.  One pizza topping that caught my eye - mainly because my wife is a fan - anchoies.  So many places have eliminated anchovies from their menus.  Good to see this classic Italian ingredient brought back.

Marco's will be offering limited in store dining, take-out, and delivery for its offerings, and they do have the capacity to cater your event.  They will even help your local group with a fundraiser.  They even offer online ordering via www.marcos.com.

So - if you get a chance to swing by Douglas Boulevard and Bright Star, give them a try.  Based on what I sampled - I will bring them some of my business next time I'm in a pizza mood.
