Another Giant Lost - Zig Ziglar, 86

The quintessential motivator of the ages, Zig Ziglar, passed away today at the age of 86.

Given the title of "The Motivator's Motivator", Zig Ziglar has touched hundreds of millions of lives around the world with his motivational books, seminars, webinars, and more.  His career spanned some fifty years, ending with his retirement in 2010.

This morning, Zig Ziglar passed away at a local hospital in Plano, Texas after a long struggle with pneumonia.  His passing will be markedly felt among those whose lives were significantly impacted by his mission and life work.

From his Facebook Page:

“Though his time on earth has ended, he is speaking with Jesus now in his heavenly home,” read a statement on the page. “The angels in heaven are rejoicing and his family is celebrating a life well lived.”

I have his books lining my shelves and have fond memories from a conference he was a speaker at that the company I worked for had organized.  I had the opportunity to be escorting him around the conference and we had a number of great discussions during that time.

Zig Ziglar was always full of energy, had a kind word for those he encountered, and never faltered when it came to speaking publicly.  If you have never heard of or read his work, I suggest you start with, "Better Than Good: Creating a Life You Can't Wait to Live", and follow up with "God's Way is Still the Best Way", both of which are available for the Kindle.

If you are a sales professional or business owner - I can't imagine you haven't read anything by him.  If you are new to the sales game, I highly recommend you read his book, "Ziglar on Selling: The Ultimate Handbook for the Complete Sales Professional".

Zig Ziglar's influence, personality, and zeal for life will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and his fans.  This world lost a great one today.
