Click it or Ticket
We were on the way to Petsmart yesterday with a van full of beasts, human and canine, when we were flagged down by the Hiram Police.
The officer kindly reminded my father to buckle up. Ironically, my father always buckles up as does everyone else in my family. Perhaps the new puppy on board distracted him from his routine? We were grateful for the notice.
The officer was very cordial in delivering the citation and we were soon on our way.
I believe "click it or ticket" is a wonderful program. It is so very important to buckle up everyone. It is astounding to me seeing kids hoping around in the back seats of cars unrestrained.
Growing up, seat belts were not enforced. Most of them had slid under the back seat and were gone forever. I remember one snowy evening in Ohio, we spun around on an icy bridge and landed on the side of the expressway. I was flung into the floor boards, but was unscathed. I still remember the lights from the huge truck that stopped to check on us. We were lucky, but l wouldn’t bet my life on luck.
The news always covers horrendous wrecks where people are thrown from the vehicle. Your chance of surving is slim, and many of them, unfortunately, are teens.
I think they need a new campaign “Buckling up is cool!”
A strap of cloth can save a life. Please take a moment to make sure you and everyone in your car is buckled.
Thank you HPD for the reminder!
